PURPOSE AND KEY FOCUS


The Receptionist is responsible for providing reception and general clerical support to the
Department. Such support will entail secretarial, clerical and administrative duties in order to
provide services in an effective and efficient manner.

JOB SUMMARY


The Receptionist is responsible for ensuring the organization receives support that provides for
minimal interruption in the provision of services. The receptionist maintains a presence at the
entrance to receive the public, clients and representatives from allied organizations.

REPORTING STRUCTURE


Reports to the Director of Health & Social Development

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


▪ Provide office support services in order to ensure efficiency and effectiveness within all
programs operating in the unit
▪ Direct the members of the general public to the appropriate staff member
▪ Receive, direct and relay telephone, email and fax messages
▪ Process incoming and outgoing mail
▪ Open and date stamp all general correspondence
▪ Maintain general filing system including filing all correspondence, other than those
marked
“Confidential”
▪ Respond to public inquiries
▪ Type confidential documents
▪ Maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies
▪ Assist Department staff as requested
▪ Attend meetings when required
▪ Participates in community events as requested
▪ All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing
emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
▪ Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and
procedures
▪ Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


▪ Grade 12 or equivalent
▪ Office Administration, Medical Office Assistant Certificate or equivalent preferred
▪ An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
▪ Valid BC Driver’s licence, Class 5 and reliable vehicle

▪ Office administrative support experience
▪ Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
▪ Experience working with confidential information
▪ Experience working with First Nations communities
▪ Managing clients with health conditions throughout the ages
▪ Experience working in a clinical setting and community setting
▪ Experience working with First Nations communities and/or populations

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE

$19.00 – $24.00/Hourly dependent on education and experience
