Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce, originally from Kitamaat Village, BC, emerged with their debut, self-titled album and follow-up The Average Savage in 2017. Their single “Skoden” was playlisted on CBC Music’s “Reclaimed” and was named one of the year’s 100 best songs by CBC. In May 2018, they released the new single “The Warriors” and were signed to Jarrett Martineau’s RPM Records. Their third album, “Trapline” featuring the hit “Boujee Natives” was released independently in May 2019 and shortlisted in June for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize, a Juno nomination and a 100-show tour across three continents. Exclaim! Magazine named the album “the 7th best hip-hop album of the year”.
Their subsequent album in 2021, Life After garnered another Juno and 2022 Polaris Music Prize nomination and saw them perform at high-profile events like The Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Canucks games. Their 2022 release, I’m Good, HBU? won a Prism Prize, made the Polaris Prize Shortlist and garnered three Western Canadian Music Awards.
In 2023, the Snotty Nose Rez Kids duo signed with Sony Music Canada and their video for “Damn Right”, directed by Sterling Larose, won the Prism Prize. In 2024, CBC Television announced that the duo was slated to star in an eponymous comedy television series, playing fictionalized versions of themselves prior to the rise to fame, which will premiere in the 2024-25 television season.
In the summer this year, Snotty Nose Rez Kids released their new single, “Devil’s Club” featuring Apsaalooke Nation artist Rezcoast Grizz, produced by BZA. This powerful track is the fourth from their just released album Red Future.
