K41796 – Hullcar Mountain fire update

August 12th, 0830 Hours (8:30am)

Way’ Members,

We’re happy to report that the Hullcar Mountain wildfire has been moved to ‘being held’ status (definition: wildfire is projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary. At this point, crews may finish establishing control lines, conduct fuel management activities and mop-up). This is a great milestone on the way to full containment. Due to the successful Planned ignition operations by BC Wildfire, the fire size is now estimated at 784 Hectares. The fire is not expected to increase in size on its own anymore.

BC Wildfire crews today will continue focusing on making established fire guards deeper and mopping up hot spots which are still active to ensure steps towards full containment of the fire. At this time fire activity is mostly rank 1 and 2 with some small pockets of rank 3

Definitions on wildfire ranks are available on BC Wildfire Service’s website:

BC Wildfire has also confirmed that Evacuation Order and Alert areas have been downgraded And OKIB will be making removing our Evacuation Alert area for Heywood Armstrong today. With the Evacuation Alert being rescinded for our OKIB IR#1 reserve lands, the OKIB Emergency Operations Center will be standing down however the fire will continue to be monitored by our Emergency Program Coordinator.
