6-Mile Dam to be Replaced with Riffles

Attention Members:

OKIB has started a new construction project on the 6-Mile dam. The old dam was destroyed by floods so it will be decommissioned and replaced with riffles. The riffles will provide the same irrigation function and access as the dam, but will also allow for fish passage, provide usable fish habitat, and increase bank stability where erosion is occurring. The riffles will convert the old dam bench into a flood plain.

The construction site road will be closed to all non-construction traffic from August 12 to 26, 2024. It is a short 500 metre stretch of road at the end of Bonneau road, 250 metres above and below the old dam site. See the attached maps.

Updates will be provided as construction progresses.
