K41796 – Hullcar Mountain fire update August 8th, 0900 Hours (9:00 am)

Way’ Members,

The Hullcar Mountain fire growth was slow last night with the fire’s new size being estimated at 700 hectares last night.

BC Wildfire crews will continue their work today maintaining guards. 70 firefighters are assigned to the fire. Heavy equipment and structural protection units will also be in support once again today. Helicopter crews will continue to provide suppression support throughout the day today.

This morning the fire’s rank is sitting at rank 1. Fire rank will likely increase during the heat of the afternoon and have a higher visual impact as smoke increases before reducing again in the evening as temperatures die down.

Definitions on wildfire ranks are available on BC Wildfire Service’s website:

As a reminder OKIB urges watercraft users to stay off the North arm of Okanagan Lake, allowing BC Wildfire aircraft the required space needed to access water for firefighting.

The OKIB EOC will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when possible.
