K41796 – Hullcar Mountain fire update

August 7th, 1430 Hours (2:30pm)

Way’ Members,

The Hullcar Mountain fire grew in size overnight to 670 hectares approximately.

BC Wildfire crews will continue their work today reinforcing and widening guards. Aerial attack and heavy equipment and structural protection units will also be in support. Skimmers and Helicopter crews will continue to provide suppression support throughout the day and into the night.

Currently the Northeast corner of the fire is the most active with a rank 2 and 3 rating.

The southern flank facing OKIB continues to be ranked between 1 and 2. Definitions on wildfire ranks are available on BC Wildfire Service’s website:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/wildfire-status/wildfire-response/about-wildfire/wildfire-rank

As a reminder OKIB urges watercraft users to stay off the North arm of Okanagan Lake, allowing BC Wildfire aircraft the required space needed to access water for firefighting.

The OKIB EOC will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when possible.
