Smoke visible from ridge east of Armstrong is not a cause for alarm
A large plume of smoke on the ridge east of Armstrong-Spallumcheen is nothing to worry about.
Vernon's Tolko Industries is conducting post-harvest fire risk reduction burning in the area.
The forest industry company advised Spallumcheen council of the activity in a letter included in council's last agenda.
"Tolko Industries Ltd. crews will be on the slopes east of the township. Work in this area is anticipated to occur during October and November," operations supervisor Ryan Potter said in the letter.
The public can experience periodic smoke to be visible in the area, says Potter. The BC Wildfire Service said it is not aware of any new fires in the area.
