Health Bulletin Reminder: Please keep your children home if they are sick or exhibit symptoms of being sick

Dear Families of OKIB Community:

While we are happy to see our students attend school/daycare, we have been dealing with instances of children attending who are not well.

To be very clear: Parents must not send their children to school if they are sick or exhibit symptoms of being sick and are unable to participate FULLY in routine activities.

Sending your children to school if they are not well creates significant staffing challenges and impacts our ability to safely and properly staff our classes and keep our buildings open. Additionally, this also puts the health risk on other children who are attending in good health and this creates a vicious cycle.

Staff, children, or other people can attend school if their symptoms are consistent with a previously diagnosed health condition (e.g., seasonal allergies); or if their symptoms have improved, and they feel well enough to return to regular activities and do not display symptoms of illness or otherwise advised by a healthcare provider.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

If you or your child are sick and you would like to consult a medical professional:

• Call the OKIB Primary Care Clinic to make an appointment to see a doctor at 250-503-0877.

After hours or on weekends:

• Call the Provincial Healthline to speak with a nurse at 8-1-1

• Visit the Vernon Urgent Care Centre at 3105 28th Ave, Vernon, BC V1T 8Y4 or call 250-541-1097.
