The Health and Wellness Department oversees the provision of direct health services to members on and off reserve, including the OKIB Medical Clinic and the vaccination program. The department administers a variety of programs and services on behalf of Health Canada and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC formerly INAC).
Programs are funded through the Health Canada’s First Nations Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) and AANDC by way of Contribution Agreements. The Department must administer and provide these programs and services in a manner that complies with Health Canada and AANDC criteria. Services fall within the following sub-departments:
- Child and Family Services
- Social Development
- Membership Services
- Employment and Training (OTDC)
